The conventional way:
You meet with the home owner or the home owner's agent and make an offer to purchase, many times without the necessary paperwork. If the home is listed through a real estate agency, that agent is working for the seller and, therefore, does not represent your interests. This leaves you to negotiate and seek out advice on your own behalf. That being said, you will also be left to find and contract outside agencies to try and get the best deal on title work and closing costs, leaving you alone and without much assistance as you try to finalize the largest transaction you'll likely make in your lifetime.
